Even us people about to go on a vacation have to deal with real life problems sometimes! For many people, as soon as they hear that they are going to need dentures, they assume that they will never be able to ever eat the things that they love again. After all, dentures basically means that your teeth will never work again, right, and you’ll not even be able to talk properly because of the weird way that they will sit in your mouth? That is the image that we have from all of our grandparents, along with the cartoons and TV shows that include dentures as nothing more than a cheap gag and way to make people laugh. None of that makes people feel positive when they hear the words from their dentist that they are going to need dentures from now on.
And when you think about it, for hundreds of thousands of people around the world, and many in this country, having dentures is no joke. You can need dentures for a variety of reasons; some people lose teeth due to a car accident that they could never have avoided, or a DIY accident that they could never have predicated. Some people are born with very sensitive teeth that they simply can’t protect completely from the challenges of modern day living. So much of the food and drink that surrounds us is just terrible for us, even the food that is labelled ‘health food’ is packed full of sugar, colorings, additives, preservatives . . . you name it, if it’s bad for you, then you would have probably eaten it in some form or other over the last few days.
It really isn’t anyone’s fault most of the time when they need to have dentures, but that does not make it any easier to hear when you are told by your dentist that dentures are your future, and there are always so many questions that run through people’s minds. Will having dentures hurt? Will they change the way that I look? Will how I speak change now that I have dentures? Will I still be able to eat the same foods that I love? And for those of us who absolutely love travelling, how will having dentures affect the way that I am able to eat while I am abroad?
The good news is that if you are able to convince your dentist into giving you holistic dentures, then you will probably find that your life will barely change at all. That is because a holistic dentist does not want to impact your overall health and well being in a negative way, and so will go out of their way to ensure that they can integrate dentures into your overall lifestyle in a way that only benefits you. Now, you may think that that is completely impossible, but a small group of dentists have been making it happen. Holistic dentures mean tailoring the way that you have dentures to your individual needs, and that can mean permanent dentures, or temporary dentures, dentures fixed on a bridge or dentures attached to dental implants . . . you name it, there is a way around it. If you want to be able to eat steak abroad, there is absolutely no reason why you can’t! You just need to be honest with your dentist when they tell you that you need dentures, and explain that you still want a great quality of life, and that you want holistic dentures. If they are worth their salt, then they will be able to do just that.
