Bangalore is the capital city of the state of Karnataka and is a booming commercial hub in the country. Located amidst the Deccan Plateau in the south-eastern part of the state, Bangalore is the third most populated city in the country. On the other hand, Shimla is located amidst the Himalayas in Northern India. It is a popular hill station in the country. Although most cities are located at quite a distance from each other, there are different transport options available between them. As a tourist, you can opt for the right option as per your preference and budget.
Bangalore is an important transport junction. The city is served by an international airport which operates numerous domestic and international flights. Being a hill station located at high altitude, Shimla does not have an airport. The nearest airport is located at Chandigarh. You can opt for a flight from Bangalore to Chandigarh and from there head on to Shimla. It takes around 4 hours to reach Shimla from Chandigarh. You can fly down to Delhi and from there start your journey to Shimla by train or bus. It takes around 2.5 hours to reach Delhi/Chandigarh from Bangalore in a flight.
Coming to rail transport, train services are available between Bangalore and Delhi. Some of the trains that ply between these cities are Rajdhani Express, Karnataka Sampark Kranti Express, Yesvantpur Junction S Kranti Express, and Mysore Delhi Express and so on. It takes around 24 to 30 hours to reach Delhi from Bangalore. Booking the trains and getting PNR is easy as they can be done online through the IRCTC site. You can also buy tickets from the counters of different stations.
From Delhi, you can opt for trains to Shimla. It has a special charm of its own. Take the Kalka Shimla Railway that travels a distance of around 96 kms. It is a toy train ride and is a world by the UNESCO. The 6 hours route in an enthralling experience as it passes through 103 tunnels, 20 idyllic railway stations and around 900 curves. There are direct trains from Delhi to Kalka, from where the toy train journey starts. Kalka is located at an altitude of 2100 feet and the train travels all the way to Shimla, which I situated at an altitude of 5100 feet.
There are no direct bus services from Bangalore to Shimla as the cities are very far from each other. You can get buses from the states of Haryana, Punjab and Delhi to Shimla.
